What is ESI Registration?

ESI or Employee State Insurance can be called a self-financing social security scheme in India. Initially, it was applicable for establishments that had 10/10+ employees, but subsequently, the coverage expanded. If any establishment is having employees drawing a salary of up to 21,000, the establishment becomes eligible.

Eligibility for ESI Registration in India

To lay hands on ESI (Employees' State Insurance) registration, establishments need to have 10/10+ workers. Although, in some cases, ESI is applicable only for 20+ employees. Other eligibility criterias that need to be fulfilled are mentioned below: 1.Employees with gross salary up to Rs. 21,000 p.m. Establishment Registered with EPFO 2. 6.5% of the gross salary is ESI contribution 3. It is divided as: 4. 4.75% by the employer 5. 1.75% by the employee For industrial units, where there are chances of occurrence of injury or health issues at the business premises, all employees with the salary less than Rs.21,000 essentially need to have ESI.
