ESI or Employee State Insurance can be called a self-financing social security scheme in India. Initially, it was applicable for establishments that had 10/10+ employees, but subsequently, the coverage expanded. If any establishment is having employees drawing a salary of up to 21,000, the establishment becomes eligible.
To lay hands on ESI (Employees' State Insurance) registration, establishments need to have 10/10+ workers. Although, in some cases, ESI is applicable only for 20+ employees.
