Employee State Insurance works as a self-financing scheme for social security and health insurance plan to Indian workers that offer medical and disability benefits. The scheme operates under the governance of the ESI Act, 1948, and controlled by the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) that's under the Ministry of Labor and Employment. ESIC is supposed to maintain the fund as per the rules and regulations abided by the Act.
The ESIC is applicable to all the business establishments with 10 or more workers, and it has advantages for all the employees earning a monthly wage of Rs.15 000/- below. An employer has to allocate 3.25 percent, and an employee should contribute 0.75 percent towards ESI.
The employee is due for the payment of ESI returns on a half-year, and the dates are decided as follows: The due date for filing ESI return is 11th November from the period of April to September. The due date for filing ESI return is 11th March from the period of October to March.
A 17-digit unique identification number which is given to all the registered entities. The number is generated on the ESIC portal after the employer submits the required documents or after getting the receipt of a survey report provided by the Social Security Officer.
– Absent reports as sought by the branch manager. – Accident Reports in Form 12, in case any accident happens. – Attendance, books of accounts, wages reports/ records assorted by Social Security officer on the last inspection.
ESI Return contributions have to be filed within 42 days of termination of the contribution period. The last date of paying the ESI contribution is within 21 days of the final date of a calendar month. These returns must be filed for half a year.
The ESIC Return is filed once every half-year, which means the ESIC return has to be filed on or before 11th May and 11th Nov.
